About the faculty:

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University engages in world-class research and has a long history of as leading provider of education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Uniquely, 99% of the faculty’s coursework is purpose designed and delivered by its staff.

Historically known as the Victorian College of Pharmacy, in August 2008, the faculty became known as the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The new name was adopted to highlight our education and research offerings and to better reflect our distinct position within the healthcare, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

The educational profile of the faculty comprises two undergraduate programs, four postgraduate coursework and two higher degree by research courses. Over 1800 students are enrolled in these programs. 98% of the faculty’s students complete their course, an impressive retention rate.

Leading the way in education innovation, the faculty’s driving force behind introducing innovative technologies is student learning outcomes.  Projects include two Virtual practice environments which are extreme high tech small group spaces with real-life practice settings, Pharmatopia a virtual world, which houses the faculty’s virtual tabletting laboratory and Pharmville an innovative teaching tool that will provide context and integration to the Bachelor of Pharmacy curriculum throughout the four years of the program.

The faculty considers access to high quality university postgraduate award courses, including intern training programs, as crucial for the pharmacy profession and is a founding member of the National Alliance for Pharmacy Education which aims to support the on-going advancement of the pharmacy profession through the provision of high quality, flexibly-delivered award courses by leveraging resources, experience and expertise from its university members.

The key research initiatives within the faculty, engaging more than 200 research staff and post-graduate students, are the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety and the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the largest, best equipped and most experienced group of pharmaceutical scientists in Australia and the Centre of Medicine Use and Safety is working to develop, implement and evaluate new, better models and systems of health care practice.

The faculty is located at Monash University’s Parkville campus. The campus is 3km north of Melbourne’s city centre and is part of the ‘Parkville strip’ – Australia’s premier knowledge precinct. The campus has first class teaching facilities and research laboratories arising from a $45 million redevelopment over the past two years.
